Muscat - Thailand took an early lead but Oman came back with two second-half goals to defeat the Thais 2-1 on Sunday in their Group 2 World Cup qualifying result in the Asia zone.

Tawan Sripan put Thailand ahead early when he converted a penalty in the third minute. Amad Ali tied the game for Oman in the 58th minute. Ali scored again with five minutes left in the game after beating Thai goalkeeper Sivarak Tedsungnoen.

Both Thailand and Oman were already out of the running in Group 2 to progress to the fourth and final round of Asian qualifying for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Japan and Bahrain have already advanced from this group.
